This is a great trail. It is difficult at one point requiring careful rock scrambling and significant tree root navigation. Once the rocks end there is a long steady climb to the top of Jack's Hill. At the top a short side trail to the left leads to a tiny (10-15 foot)waterfall where Jack's Lake trickles into Jack's Branch of Sweetwater Creek. The main trail then leads to open meadows and then along a gravel road where cars are allowed. The car that passed me was considerate enough to drive very slowly to avoid creating excessive dust. My 16 pound Shih-tzu is my hiking partner and he generally stayed ahead urging me along. We completed all four of the Sweetwater trails (9 miles total) in 3 visits.

Combined with the red trail to make about a 5 mile hike. We started on the Red and ended on the white. This may be the best way to do the hike. The red and the first part of the white is more difficult as it follows Sweetwater creek, with some steep and rocky areas. The longest climb on the hike is once you leave Jack's Lake. After that point, you enter gravel roads and open fields all the way back to the picnic pavillion area. Careful of snakes along the river. We saw at 4 LARGE snakes sunning themselves on the trail and rocks beside the river.

I had mixed opinions of this trail. Several parts were quiet and fairly secluded while others shared a service road. I had 5 cars pass me while hiking. I was pretty upset with sharing my hike with car traffic. I found the cars later all parked together and on some sort of guided tour. The large group would not move out of the trail and made it difficult for Sadie and I to pass through them. Overall, while not a terrible experience, I was disappointed with the lack of seclusion on what they call the "most remote" area of the park.
