This day hike would be great near sunset thanks to the view to the west from Springer except walking back to the car would be difficult because of the rocks and tree roots

4/9/05; alone. Rocky and soggy up to beginning of AT. Awesome up there; went a mile or two north on AT; beautiful stretch, then looped around on way back to McKaye trail -it too was great. Much longer on road to parking lot than expected.

My kids and I did almost all of the Maine AT in 1987. This summer I got to the top of Springer Mountain, from a base in the parking area, but it was a great triumph, because this time, I have a prosthetic leg. What a thrill to make it to the top, and then have the old "AT" experience of a good thunderstorm to make you appreciate a set of dry clothes at the car. And there were no mosqitos!

Great trailheads. Springer has APT and BMT start in same area. The backside of a Springer Mt descent is 700 feet of switchbacks and a 6-7 mile walk back to Am. Falls great hike . Take two cars. :-)

Hiked from Nimberwill Gap to the top. Passed Black Gap shelter, very nice. Everything is in bloom and the hike was beautiful. View from the top is spectacular and you always feel like you are in a special place standing hext to the bronze plaque that marks the beginning of the AT.

Found Geocache in fog and misty cold day (with dogs). Helios hurt his knee and Triton dug a nest in the leaves for himself.
