I've hiked this trail three times, always during a season with leaves, so there aren't many nice views (though I know there are in winter). The trail is in fair to good condition, although last time I hiked it, I saw markings with improvements to be made (such as stairs, laying logs, etc...). The first half of the trail is pretty easy, while the second half (about a mile and a half before arriving at the AT) is strenuous. There are plenty of water sources all along the first 3/4 of the trail.

Great place to go fishing! Serene Dockery Lake in the middle of the trail. Salamanders galore!

hiked on 2/2/08- Awesome trail- great views in winter. Of the 30 or so trails I've hiked in North Georgia this is in the top 3. There are some steep sections, but the overall climb is just under 1000 feet from the lake to the junction with the AT. Many stream crossings in first 1/2. Lots of hemlock cover and deciduous forest higher up.
