Cooper's Furnace, the Etowah River, the variety of flora and fauna, and the overlook at the dam are all worth the hike.

Several trails here. Cooper's Branch, Laurel Ridge and the road that leads to the visitor's center and Dam overlook. The trails have informative signs along the way and there are several overlooks spots. In fall, winter and spring when the leaves are off the trees there is a spectacular view of the Etowah River below the dam flowing into the valley from the maintenance road.

Two trails to choose from. One is 4/10 mile, straight up to look out or visitors center. The Cooper's Furnace Hiking Trail is one mile to Laurel Ridge, then .5 miles to visitor's center.

April 8, 2009 - I only walked the short Cooper's Furnace trail. It is very steep going up.

Hiked 4/18/09. Very pleasantly surprised with the beauty of this area. Had never hiked here before. Saw 4 foxes during this hike at fairly close range! One with a kill in it's mouth; a squirrel. Fascinating. Took a lot of great pictures of structures and wildflowers.
