Walked this path yesterday, several updates needed to this site. The northern trail head is 2.2 miles down FS 87, not 1.4, the sign lists the distance as 3.8 miles each way. Also, the trail is very narrow in spots. I would NOT take children on this hike, and the trail is so narrow, with drops 75-100 feet directly off the path. Got a good workout though.

Surprisingly nice trail in the piedmont. Follows water all the way, which always makes a hike more pleasant for me. The dog loved playing in the water. Went early on a Sunday morning, so had the trail to ourselves.
