A few years ago I hiked the appalation trail. Now for fun, my wife and I go hiking to different areas each weekend. The trail at Vickery was pretty easy, you need to go in the morning before it gets too hot. Regards, Bill Stankiewicz

Hiked the outer loop today, took about 80 minutes. Trails are really easy to follow. Forestry service doesn't do shit to keep this place maintained, a couple of times I have had to come back with a bow saw to cut up blow downs that have been down for months. Trails is used a lot by locals and their dogs.

Does anyone know how Vickery creek got its name?

The post from Wayne on 8/5/2002 is right on target. The trails on the other side are well worth the trip. I did a trail run through there on November 10th. There is a well-marked outer loop that's probably about 3 miles and includes a lot of up and down and switchbacks. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good workout in a semi-secluded environment. You can't find many trails this good that are so close to heavily populated areas.

The Trail was nice, but when I went about 2 weeks ago, the "waterfall" smelled like sewage. I took a lot of pictures on the trails around it and had a lot of fun climbing the rocks.

The trail was neat to hike. I enjoyed the waterfall. I would visit again, since it is close to home. It was nice and peaceful.

What nobody seems to mention is that on the opposite side of the creek is a fairly substantial trail system. It's a total of about 3.5 miles, not counting the terminal trails. Lots of good uphill and downhill workout, mostly moderate difficulty. I do this trail three to four times a week with a 20 pound pack which adds a healthy level of intensity. I come out well drenched from sweating. The circuit takes about 90 minutes at a healthy 2.5 mph. You can park just off Riverside Road at the bottom of Roswell Road, or go up Roswell Road about halfway up the hill, park, and hike down additional trails to the creek, head south, and cross over the Riverside Road bridge. I'd skip the visit to the mill.

Overall, not a very good trail. The falls are impressive but tainted by a yellow hue. The trail must have been very nice a few years ago, but home and apartment building in the area basically ruined it. The river was polluted with trash hung up in downed trees. It's a very short loop and not enough excercise if you are already in decent shape. From the dog's perspective - he seemed to enjoy running off the leash and chasing ducks around the river. If you live in the area, it is worth taking your dog or having a brief jog that ends with a steep climb back to the parking area. 1-10? 4.

I hiked there 02/10/2002. I found the old mill and mortarless stone retaining walls very interesting. It is hard to believe anyone could get so much heavy equipment down in the little valley Vickery Creek occupies. The falls were much larger than I anticipated top to bottom and side to side. Unfortunately, the rest of the trail leaves something to be desired, although I did see a fair number of birds, and some beautiful old Birch trees.

The water was deemed polluted by the city of Roswell. When you could swim in the area, you could have knoticed that there is an openning under the fall where you can climb in behind the water. Nice waterfall, but a steep short walk.

The trail is nonexistant, except for some stairs. The waterfall pretty much sucks. You can see the nasty yellow water coming down the 30 feet or so drop. Not worth comparing to North Georgia trails and waterfalls. But good enough to stop by if you find yourself in the area.

Last Friday, my friends and I were going to hike down to the Falls. It was Friday the 13th, so we went at 3:00Am. Being pitch black outside, my friend slipped and fell....down the waterfall. I was terrified and she didn't make it. They found her body floating at the bottom of the waterfall. No one knows about this. It has not been publicised, because we don't think it's in our best interest to have everyone know about it. I wanted to warn people about this waterfall, and the dangers nature can really cause. So please be careful! If you don't do it for me, do it for Jamie Hughes. She's watching down on that very spot from heaven right now. I know I've lost a lot by my stupidity of going there at 3:00AM on Friday, October 13, 2000. I've lost my best friend. I will never be the same. RIP

Just got back from the trail and I was very suprised to find such a great place right in Roswell. The steps were very helpful and I found them to be very useful for a nice cardio workout. I almost stepped on a snake! That was a bit scary, since this was my second hiking trail, I wasn't ready to find it curled up right on the rock I was about to step on to get my feet wet in the water. Needles to say I didn't get my feet wet. Be on the lookout. I am curious as how to get across the creek as there is another trail on the opposite bank, any info would be much appreciated. Happy hiking!

True. It is a long walk down those stairs to get to the falls, but it is worth it! The falls are beautiful and it's one of the only places you can go in Roswell/Alpharetta that is really part of nature. Places like that are hard to find in a city like ours. Vickery Creek is my favorite place to hang out and relax at. :-)

The trail was very silly and I really didn't like it.

Steep going down to the falls but seems even steeper when trying to walk back up it.
