Went to the Pocket this weekend. Did not hike the trail. A lot of blow down's in the park itself, so we figured the trail looked just as bad. The tree's have taken out the camp host's trailer, too: so I don't believe there's anyone there either. A few campsites were filled. Still a nice area but I don't think there's paid manpower to remove the debris. Any volunteers?

Deana's comments regarding the "peaceful trail" and "camping in the old barn" actually refers to another area with the same name: The Pocket at Pigeon Mountain in Walker County. She's right - it's a beautiful trail and the area with the barn is probably my favorite valley in the Georgia mountains. The other Pocket (which is actually the one that is subject of this web site) is 25 miles southeast of the Pigeon Mountain Pocket and is astraddle the county line between Walker and Floyd counties. It too is a beautiful valley and there is a scenic barn across the road from the Pocket Recreational Area but it's on private property so no camping!

This is a very beautiful and peaceful trail. There are not usually alot of people on this trail. You can also camp in the old barn.
