I think it's more fun to run it

I have hiked this and many other trails and I have to say the comments I saw about having to keep your dogs on leashes are horrible!!! More state parks and trails are becoming off limits to dogs because of people like this who like to let their dogs roam. Have some respect for others who use these parks and keep the dogs leashed otherwise we may not be able to enjoy these spectacular places with our pets.

Hiked the 5.6-mile loop last weekend from the Cheatham Hill parking lot. It's a beautiful hike, if not underpopulated, at least there aren't the hoards that are on the trails leaving from the Visitors Center. It's easy for the distance, I did it in 2 1/4 hours walking at a moderate pace. I confess to not following the dog-on-leash policy all the way (you have to have a dog who wheels like a cavalry horse and comes racing back to you as there are plenty of people, dogs, and even horses on the trail), and the slopes are generally moderate enough that you can see who's coming ahead or behind you. I did take a wrong turn because I tried to follow the Park map I picked up at the Visitor Center. About halfway there's a horse trailer parking area listed. You should have taken a right and crossed the road without getting to that (or conversely crossed the road and taken a left w/o ever seeing it if you're walking "clockwise"--which involves more uphills). Don't look for the farm as a landmark--it's not really apparent on from the trail. The trails were clean, quiet, and lovely on a misty fall day.

As already noted, the combined trail loop between the visitors center and Kolb farm is 16 miles long (round trip). Hiking down the back side of little Kennesaw is very treacherous and the trail is poorly marked in some areas. From start to finish, it’s a great 7 hour workout.

The hike is easy, with water available at two locations. The scenery is beautiful. I have also run this loop, and for running I would rate it as HARD, due to the path's hilly terrain.

This is really a nice hike,,,not too hard, but 5 miles is a nice distance, check out blackberries in summer

This is one of my favorite trails in the Atlanta area. I wish that dogs had a little freer rein--it's tough to keep one on the leash for 5.6 miles.

I really like the whole battlefield park and wish it could be extended. Have been hiking and running the trails for a number of years. The noise from Dallas Hwy traffic is getting very bad as is the crossing at the road.
