North Georgia Mountain
Outfitters, Ellijay

Trail is well marked and well kept. I use the trail for running. Two spots that are somewhat strenous for novice hikers or runners. Trail is short and great physical activity. I would recommend this trail for running, recreational walking and hiking.

A well used pathway. Many downed trees but only a few crossing paths. A good place to get away from it all while not having to drive for hours. A good place to break in a new pair of boots and get ready for the next overnighter.

Jones Bridge is a superb in town escape. While the hike itself is fairly easy, there are some ascents that will keep your heart pumping. Due to the recent storms, some parts of the trail require re-routing or climbing over fallen trees that have not yet been cleared. Really great looking mushrooms growing in the upper wooded area this time of year.

The portion accessable from Barnwell is a nice shaded walk. The river is pleasant unless it rains, then it's a muddy mess thanks to the run off. For hiking this is easy. For jogging the hill at the end makes it a little bit of a challenge. Taken slowly this is a nice walk with kids and dogs. At a fast walk or jog it can be a good place to get a workout.

The west portion of the park is still under construction. As mentioned in other reports, there are two sides to JonesBridge Park. One is accessible from the east bank off of Medlock Bridge Rd., while the west bank is accessible from Barnwell Rd. The east bank was revamped over three years ago when the additions of soccer, softball, and all purpose fields were added to the park. On this side of the river, you will find BBQ pits and covered picnic areas for larger gatherings. These are on a first come first server basis. The west side of the river is a whole different atmosphere. Though the trail is still being worked on, it is fairly easy to determine where it goes at any given point. This may change rapidly though as ground cover thickens in the summer. If you head south on the trail, you will eventually come to a gravel path where there are no markings to tell you of the trails official end. If you continue, you will end up in a neighborhood. The north side of the park(by the bridge) is the most trafficed area. Here you can fish or play with the dog. It is not a bad place to take a pet, but please leave them on leashes if there are hikers or families around. Otherwise, use your best judgement. As far as the fishing goes, brown and rainbow trout are plentiful but all farm grown. Your best bet is to call one of the two hatcheries up stream towards the Buford Dam to get release dates. The best fishing will always be within a week of these releases. These fish have been raised on corn, so don't bother staying up all night making flies. The park is quickly becoming a lovely place to take the whole family for an easy stroll through the woods or a picinic. Parking is $2 like all state parks unless you have a sticker. Restrooms are available with diaper stations.

What a great trail, and close to Atlanta.

Hey, I'm a 16 year old male who live on the Chattahoochee, right across from the Nat'l park. Actually there is another park right across the river from the national one. Anyways, me and my friends go and jump off of jones bridge in the summer. It is a rweally good way to cool down from the hot Georgia heat. Jumping off the bridge is "illegal" but there is never a ranger there. If there is just jump off and swim to the other side. It is a beautiful place. The best place/trick i know for fishing is right under the bridge in a raft. Use corn out of a can-thats what they feed them before they r released into the river.

We love to take a picnic lunch and go hiking here. We think we saw former Georgia governor Zell Miller in the first parking lot.
