North Georgia Mountain
Outfitters, Ellijay

Jan 1, 2005. 2pm to 230pm, clear, 63 degrees. My wife and I hiked this trial together. Very easy hike, one incline about 60 feet long right at the begining. Neat area right behind dam. There were about 15 people fishing the tailrace behind dam. We ate our picnic lunch at the covered table behind the dam and then took the short hike. We saw no one else on the trail and the wildlife veiwing structures are similar to the shelters on A.T. but smaller, with slots for you to look out over the swampy area. Early morning or late evening i think would be a better time for viewing wildlife, as we seen a few birds and that was all. You dont need your hiking boots for this one, but it is still an interesting place with bridges and great paths. Parking is right at the trail head and they also have port-a-potties right next to the dam...when you leave turn right out of the parking lot, go over the one lane bridge and a short way, take the left fork at sign pointing to circle h greenhouses and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This road hooks up to the old federal road where you can turn around and return to 282 hiway. Happy Trails

Hidden Pond can be both a loop trail and an in-and-out. If you bear right and cross the hills and then and the next fork also bear right, you will be able to circle the pond and come out at the end of the boardwalk across the marshy area. If you want to cross the boardwalk, you will go back across the original hills to your starting point. If you follow the path straight, rather than cross the boardwalk, you will follow the rereg dam back to your starting point. In fact, there is a pull-off off of Old 411 at one end of the pond that allows you to pick up the trail and just circle the pond. Lot's of options here.

Very easy trail. My 9-year-old daughter loves it because of the wildlife viewing. She especially liked the beaver dam.

Great trail. We are from middle Georgia and came up to see this trail specifically. Saw a pair of bald eagles (yes, bald eagles).
