We never saw the tower, the trail was very grown up, we walked until the briar patch was everywhere...We are returning in the fall..

070700 At Grassy Mtn. firetower, elevation 3692. I arrived at 8:50 am, or about 1:05 after I left the dam at L. Conasauga. It is sunny with a smart shifting breeze. I've been up the tower for a quick glimpse and now I will go up with my map, compass and binoculars & pen & paper. I might add, this venture is somewhat frightening so results may be mixed sparse or both. It is quite gusty. I see Crandall to thew West and Little Bald & Bald Mtn to the East. Crandal is 3000 ft below and about 4 miles to the west. It's too windy to hold onto everything! Now it stopped or slowed . . . building, gusting, whistling, breaking . . .

This trail, along with the service road, is accesable from the camp sites on road 17a. These are my favorite sites on the mountain, due to thier remote nature. P.S. have a 4wd!!!

My husband and my 6 yr old daughter could have gone all the way up without stopping once. We took the trail from the Lake Canasauga Campground. Although I had to stop and catch-up my breath a few times it is a quite easy trail as long as you don't try to rush. Once we made it to the tower I took a nice 20 minutes nap on the bench by it. The cool breath was awesome. 9/26/99
