Hiked lower part of Emery Creek Trail on Saturday May 14, 2005 from Holly Creek upwards. A MAJOR BLOWDOWN completely blocks the trail somewhere near the midpoint, above the lower falls where several streams converge. It is literally impossible to walk on the ground: one MUST climb on and over blowndown trees. We completely lost the trail twice and re-found it but had to complete the hike on a closed Forest Service Road. Top 2 to 3 miles down from upper trailhead not blocked. We never located place where upper trail cut the road we finished on. Our map/guidebook indicated 7.3 miles for total trail distance vs this site's 5. OurBoy Scouts made it, but my rating would be very difficult & NOT recommended at this time.

someone has tried to blaze the trail with double blue squares. They are helpful for finding the trail after all of the creek crossings, which can be rather interesting on a chilly november weekend when the water is up. Trail is in serious need of some maintaince as there are numerous downed trees, but still a beautiful and fun hike.

I hiked this Trail in March 2004 an it was amazing! After driving up the dirt road, park at gravel parking area. Follow rough trail along creek to the first of many stream crossings. This fist crossing is probably the most difficult, but fun none the less! The trail was newly blazed with double blue blazes (March 2004), although somewhat difficult to find. Take caution at major trail junctions in finding the correct path of this quiet trail. Beautiful falls and crossings! However, in the app. 2 miles I hiked, Crossing of difficult creeks was necessary 10 times! Don't forget your Chacos and trekking poles, and happy trails on this beautiful path in the Cohutta Wilderness!

We hiked with our girls (9 and 5) in March, 2003. The trail was wonderful, but at this time of year, the creek crossings were something of a challenge, particularly for the kids. The scenery was beautiful, but after the 4th creek crossing, the trail was difficult to follow for awhile. The only places we found that were blazed (in blue) was at the creek crossings. We didn't encounter another soul and enjoyed the hike very much. I'd rate as moderate just b/c of the tough crossings, but otherwise is pretty easy to walk. Was one of the nicest hikes we took that week.

Hiked this trail about 6 weeks ago. There were several blow downs. But not to difficult to get around. Only difficult crossing is the Holly Creek one. I would like to point out that this trail is not in the Cohutta Wilderness. The trail starts at the wilderness boundary and leads away from the wilderness. But the trail itself is primitive.
