North Georgia Mountain
Outfitters, Ellijay

Went for a run from the Vinings end of the trail. It was fairly difficult at times with lots of hills, which made for a great work out. HOWEVER, the trail was not marked wll AT ALL. There were pleanty of maps on the trails but they did not specify where you were on that map. Needless to say, what I hoped would be an hour jog turned into about 2 1/2 from getting lost several times!

Hiked East Palisades this weekend. Nice wooded hike. But, major problem with the trail from the Indian Trail parking lot trailhead. We hiked down along the creek to start the loop, but after a while, the trail just simply came to a dead-end drop-off. There was no way to loop around and get down to the river. There was no access to the White River parking lot, no picnic area, etc. We had to turn around and hike back up to the parking lot, then walk down the park road to the other trailhead and hike down to the river, then come back up again. And, some of the map signs were confusing - there was one point where the trail dead-ended into an intersection where you could go 90degrees right or left, but not straight. There was a map sign, but but it didn't have a "You Are Here" indicator, and the path on the map didn't show the intersection. We meandered through and made it down to the river anyway. We also encountered the long black snake! The one-lane road in and out was quite narrow compared to the rest of the parks in the Chattahoochee Recreation Area family. Fortunately, we were one of only four other groups that we saw that day, so we didn't have to deal with traffic coming the other way!

Overall the trail is very easy with the exception of the Bluff or Cliff section. The cliff section is very narrow with some scrambling required. Requires moderate technical skills at most as long as the cliffs are dry and there is little leaf fall. Wet or wet leaves and it could get a little difficult for some. Nice iin town hike took 1 1/2 hours with the cliffs and moderate pace

I hiked the trail on Memorial Day. Beautiful weather and not many people out. I think the trail would be perfect on a really hot day because of all the shade. I was pretty startled when I came across a 5' black snake! Good thing I learned that it's a Black Rat snake and they're harmless. Posted trail maps were very helpful along the way!

If you hike this trail, pay heed to the park closing times! My companion and I were once ticketed for being in the park after hours (we were 20 minutes late). The officer told us that they were more lax about the hours for the park on the opposite side of the river, as it is *very* heavily used.

The directions given in your descriptions to the trail head are incorrect as they stand and far too circuitous compared to a more direct exit method from I-285. Took me 40 minutes to straighten them out and fine the trail head on Indian!

Nice trail, great scenery, moderate terrain but awfull trail markings. We wandered around for hours.Anyone we asked was also lost. We can't take a planned trip with a group of seniors untill we can figure it out.

Nice trail, I could not imagine that there is such beautifull nature soo close to Atlanta. Including the big black snake that was taking a sunbath in the middel of the trail at the riverside. Suggestion: the map to find the place is published as a mirror-image on wour web site. This results that in your text right must be left and left right. Since I live nearby I could figure it out after a while but other people might not be so lucky.... Unless you did this intentionally to prepare for the "find your way on a trail"....:)

You can pretend you are in the North Georgia Mountais while hiking only a few miles from Atlanta.

This is one of the most difficult to find parks I have ever seen. No signage from Northside to the park. Thanks to the directions on your site, I found the park.
